Reducing sugary foods is wise for steady glucose and overall health and well-being. However, all foods that contain carbohydrates will influence glucose levels and no one is completely exempt from fluctuations in glucose, even if you completely avoid sugary foods and high carb options. Your body makes its own glucose, and it’s a normal physiologic response for glucose to increase independent of eating, influenced by the following:
- high intensity exercise
- stress
- dehydration
- inadequate sleep
- Illness and pain (even a sunburn)
