Research on the effects of meal frequency and meal timing on glucose control is mixed. A small study comparing eating one versus three meals per day found that individuals eating one meal had higher fasting plasma glucose levels and impaired morning glucose tolerance compared to those eating three meals per day. A separate study found that eating one meal per day led to weight loss but no apparent difference in the levels of serum lipids, glucose or insulin was observed in those who ate one meal versus three meals per day.
